Seabourne delivers a child’s next adventure with the Franschhoek Literacy Festival

Seabourne Logistics is well known in the industry for their quality courier and logistics services and have experienced major growth over the past 60 years. Their hands-on approach and passion for forming lasting client relationships sets them apart, while their contribution to community involvement remains a high priority.

It is estimated that a staggering one third of children in South Africa are illiterate. Reading at a young age is vital for children to develop early literacy skills, to spark imagination, develop the ability to focus and concentrate as well as learning key social and communication skills. We all know how important reading is for the development of a child’s education, but seldom do we realize how privileged we are to own, let alone be able to hold and read a book.

The Franschhoek Literacy Festival (FLF) is an NPO that brings together South African and international authors and raises funds for local communities and school libraries. The events take place in a variety of villages in the Western Cape within a few minutes’ walk of each other, creating a vibrant ambience in streets buzzing with book lovers.

At no cost to their client, Seabourne Logistics transported books to the value of over two hundred thousand rand together with thick, comfortable carpets to keep the bookworms warm during storytelling and reading in the libraries of four primary schools in the Western Cape; Wemmershoek, Wes-Eind, Dalubuhle and Groendal.

The Franschhoek Literacy Festivals are creating a positive ripple effect in the lives of many children and people by developing their reading skills and giving them the equal opportunity to read books from a library. This project aims to leave a permanent legacy within these communities, and Seabourne is pleased to have been able to support this great initiative.

The next FLF will take place in Cape Town from the 19 – 21 MAY 2023.
